Canadian Curriculum Science Blog (Grades 3–7)

Did you know your body is made of trillions of tiny cells working together every second?

Your body helps you:

  • run 🏃
  • think 🧠
  • breathe 🌬️
  • eat 🍎
  • play ⚽
  • learn 📚

Even while you sleep, your body keeps working!

The human body is one of the most amazing systems in nature. Every organ has a special job that helps keep you alive and healthy.

👀 External Body Parts

Some parts of our body can be seen from the outside. These are called:

🌍 External Organs

Examples include:

  • eyes
  • ears
  • nose
  • arms
  • legs
  • hands
  • hair
  • knees

These body parts help us interact with the world around us.

Your original presentation introduces visible body parts as external organs.

🧠 Internal Organs

Some important body parts are hidden inside our bodies.

These are called:

🫀 Internal Organs

Even though we cannot see them, they work all day and night to keep us alive.

Important internal organs include:
🧠 Brain
❤️ Heart
🫁 Lungs
🍎 Stomach

🧠 The Brain — The Body’s Control Center

The brain is one of the most important organs in the body.

It helps us:

  • think
  • learn
  • remember
  • solve problems
  • control movement

The brain sends messages through nerves to other body parts.

Your brain even works while you are asleep!

The average human brain contains:

⚡ About 86 billion nerve cells

❤️ The Heart — Your Body’s Pump

The heart is a powerful muscle about the size of your fist.

Its job is to:

❤️ Pump blood around the body

Blood carries:

  • oxygen
  • nutrients
  • energy

to all body parts.

Your heart beats:

💓 Around 100,000 times every day!

🫁 The Lungs — Helping You Breathe

Your lungs help you:
🌬️ breathe in oxygen
🌬️ breathe out carbon dioxide

Oxygen is needed by every cell in your body.

🤯 Fun Fact!

Your left lung is slightly smaller than your right lung to make room for your heart.

If your lungs were spread flat, they could cover an area almost as large as:

🎾 A tennis court!

🍎 The Stomach & Digestion

Your stomach helps digest food.

When you eat:

  • food travels down your throat
  • enters your stomach
  • mixes with digestive juices

The body breaks food into nutrients and energy.

This process is called:

🍽️ Digestion

Healthy foods help your digestive system work properly.

🦴 Bones — Your Body’s Framework

Bones:

  • give shape to your body
  • protect organs
  • help you move

The adult human body has:

🦴 206 bones

Bones work together with muscles to help you:
🏃 run
🚲 ride a bike
⚽ play sports

Some body parts do not contain bones, such as:

  • the tongue
  • ear lobes
  • eyelids

💪 Muscles — Helping You Move

Muscles allow your body to move.

You use muscles to:

  • smile 😊
  • jump 🏃
  • blink 👀
  • write ✍️

Some muscles work automatically, including:
❤️ your heart muscle

Humans have more than:

💪 600 muscles

in their bodies!

🩸 Blood — The Body’s Transport System

Blood travels through blood vessels around your body.

Blood carries:

  • oxygen
  • nutrients
  • hormones

Blood also helps:
🛡️ fight germs
🌡️ control body temperature
🩹 heal injuries

When you get a cut, blood helps protect and repair the damaged area.

⚡ Nerves — Body Messaging System

Nerves send messages between:
🧠 the brain
👋 body parts

For example:
If you touch something hot, nerves quickly send a message to your brain.

Your brain immediately tells your hand to pull away.

This fast reaction helps keep you safe.

👃 The Five Sense Organs

Humans learn about the world using:

👁️👂👃👅✋ The Five Senses

Your presentation explains the five human sense organs in detail.

👀 Eyes — Sense of Sight

Eyes help us:

  • see colors
  • recognize shapes
  • read books
  • watch movies

Eyelashes help keep:
🌬️ dust
🪰 dirt

out of the eyes.

Your pupils change size depending on light levels.

👂 Ears — Sense of Hearing

Ears help us hear:
🎵 music
🗣️ voices
🚗 sounds

Very loud sounds can damage hearing.

Inside your ears are tiny bones that help send sound signals to the brain.

👃 Nose — Sense of Smell

Your nose helps you:
🌸 smell flowers
🍕 smell food
🔥 detect smoke

Your nose also helps you breathe air into your lungs.

Smell and taste work closely together.

👅 Tongue — Sense of Taste

Your tongue helps you taste:
🍭 sweet
🧂 salty
🍋 sour
☕ bitter

Your tongue also helps you:
🗣️ speak
🍽️ chew food

Tiny taste buds on your tongue detect flavors.

✋ Skin — Sense of Touch

Skin is the body’s largest organ.

Skin helps you feel:
🔥 hot
🧊 cold
🧸 soft
🪨 rough

Skin also protects your body from germs and injury.

🇨🇦 Healthy Bodies in Canada

Canadian schools teach children the importance of:
🥗 healthy eating
🏃 physical activity
🛌 sleep
🧼 hygiene

Healthy habits help:
✅ bones grow strong
✅ brains work better
✅ hearts stay healthy
